In the past Alaska was known for its rugged, pristine, freezing beauty, but not so much for its makerdom. Over the last 10 years that's changed as innovations in heating technology and fabricated structures have allowed more people to innovate in the great north while taking advantage of the cold temperatures for certain kinds of projects. In a surprising turn, a small town called Chicken became the heart of this transformation as its once humble visitor's website, http://www.chickenalaska.com , hatched into a maker social network that overtook Facebook.
